For this week’s post, I would like you to address THREE (3) of the following:
- How is Jacobs’s narrative a sentimentalist text? Use examples from her text and from the Sentimentalism page to support your reasoning.
- Who is Jacobs’s audience? Who is Douglass’s audience? What do they hope to accomplish with each of their texts? Are they successful in fulfilling their respective purpose?
- How does each author work to challenge white supremacy, racism, and sexism? Be specific here and use examples from both of their texts.
- What commonalities did you find among this week’s authors’ texts and spirituals? In other words, did you find any common themes? What were they? Offer specific references to illustrate your points.
- Please offer one key takeaway from this week’s materials. How did you feel while reading/listening? What stood out to you as the most noteworthy message, passage, or song? This is very open-ended here. I just want to know what your reading and listening experiences were.
